The Alpilles, Van Gogh's refuge
In the Alpilles, the blazing sun heats up the lands upon which the vines and olive trees flourish. This peaceful and beautiful corner of Provence saw Vincent Van Gogh's creative process drastically change. In 1889 the painter arrived in the region to be committed to a psychiatric hospital. There, appeased by nature and the lights of Provence, he created his most beautiful paintings – among which The Starry Night.
